In the early morning of 6th June 1944 (D-Day), Operation Overlord saw more than 150,000 US, British and Commonwealth soldiers across the English Channel to 5 beaches of Normand and Northern France. The code names for these invasions we named UTAH, OMAHA, GOLD, JUNO and SWORD. By nightfall, the beachheads were taken and the liberation of western Europe had begun.
